Q: What are your views on the No Child Left Behind Act and its current implementation?

A: I think the No Child Left Behind Act is a good concept but is an unfunded mandate with not enough money. I have a related bill entitled No Child Left Outside that deals with the plight of homeless children that attend APS, but has money attached.

Q: Senator, I would like to know your position on the issure of imposing a flat income tax as opposed to the present income tax provisions.

A: A flat tax would be an improvement over our current income tax system, which began as a flat tax nearly 100 years ago. However, I believe that our country would be much better off by replacing the income tax with the FairTax program which is a consumption tax program, and which would collect taxes from all individuals in this country, not just those who file income tax returns.
